Millbrook Playhouse, a small professional non-union theatre located in Central Pa., is seeking female actors for fall musical Honky Tonk Laundry by Roger Bean, Directed by Marc de la Concha.
Honky Tonk Laundry Synopsis: When Lana Mae Hopkins, owner, and proprietress of the Wishy-Washy Washateria, hires Katie Lane Murphy to help out in the Laundromat, they soon find themselves up to their elbows in soap, suds, and cheatin’ hearts. Watch these two country angels join forces to turn their good ol’ Laundromat into a boot-scootin’ honky-tonk, exacting a touch of revenge against those that done ‘em wrong, and all while guaranteeing each and every customer a good, clean time! Take a ride to Nashville heaven in this new musical by Roger Bean (‘The Marvelous Wonderettes,’ ‘Life Could Be A Dream,’ ‘The Andrews Brothers’).
Honky Tonk Laundry features music made famous by country stars Reba McEntire, Sara Evans, Carrie Underwood, Dixie Chicks, Dolly Parton, Jessica Andrews, Martina McBride, Pam Tillis, Terri Clark, Chely Wright, Trisha Yearwood, Gretchen Wilson, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, and Loretta Lynn.
Lana Mae Hopkins: Lana Mae runs the Wishy-Washy Washeteria. In a rocky marriage, she has chosen to ignore signs of her husband’s philandering. Cheerful and big-hearted; a real diamond in the rough. She lives her life through colorful Southern sayings, and her thoughts regarding marriage and love are throwbacks to the fifties. Voice type: Alto with a strong belt. Age: Must read 30-40. Ethnicities: All Ethnicities.
Katie Lane Murphy: Katie secures a job working at the Wishy-Washy Washeteria, and sets out to help Lana Mae break free from her husband while struggling with her obsession with her ex-boyfriend. Neurotic, obsessive and quick-tempered. Voice type: Mezzo Soprano with a strong belt. Age: 20-30. Ethnicities: All Ethnicities.
